I know you know that the path to becoming the best, the absolute only choice for your potential customers, the brand that your competitors gaze at in awe and admiration wishing they were half as successful as you, is a tough one. That’s why you’ve found your way here, to this article, am I right?

  • “70-80% of people research a company online BEFORE making a purchase with them” – that’s a big chunk of your perfect customers looking for you online, making quick judgements on whether to buy from you or not, simply from how you show up online.
  • “73% of companies are investing in design to differentiate their brands” (Adobe, 2018) – A person’s first impression is formed primarily based on the design-related elements they find for your brand online, which is also what underlies a person’s perception on how credible you are as a business.
  • “88% of online consumers are less likely to return to a site after a bad experience” (https://econsultancy.com) – that’s a huge percentage of potential customers that you’re sending to your competitors from not paying attention to the experience your brand gives online

So Yeah, creating a stand out business and brand is hard. And doing all this while not falling prey to the latest trends, sticking true to your own values online and showing up even when you feel like maybe you don’t have anything unique to share is even harder.

There are going to be times when you just CAN’T deal with the ups and downs of being visible online.

You’ll want to chuck it all out the window, throw a massive toddler like
tantrum, and google job vacancies at your local coffee shop!

You’ll want to hide under the table, build a ‘no one look at me’ forte and drown your sorrows in yet another vat of coffee.

I won’t lie to you, it’s gonna suck, then it’ll get better, then it’s gonna fucking suck again, so how do you make sure, in all the ups and downs of building your business empire, you don’t give up?

It’s all about the WHY.

If you’ve swung by these digs before you’ll have heard me harp on about this before, in fact, I’m almost certain everything can be brought back to your why. Focusing on WHY you want to achieve your goals, whatever they may be, is the easiest way to keep you from falling into a slumber, updating your CV, and selling your soul to the world of employment again!

So why do you want to build your brand online?

Why do you want to be seen as the go-to person in your industry, why do you want people to fall in love with your business, your values, your offerings, from the moment they find you online?

Everyone has their own reasons. Whatever your reasons, they have to be YOURS, they have to be good, and you HAVE to keep them in mind all-the-mother-trucking-time!

So here’s the big question: What’s your WHY when it comes to building your brand visibility online? What do you really want? And why do you want it? What impact do you want to make on the world? And WHY?

It’s easy to think that just wanting the thing we want is good enough, that setting the goal in the first place is all you need, but if you don’t know WHY you want it in the first place or if your why isn’t really motivating you enough, then it’s hard to keep on when it gets tough.

So let’s do it together now.

Find a post-it note, a sheet of paper, or open notes in your phone, and write down this phrase:

I want to [build my brand visibility online] because…

Feel free to edit that middle part, if your goal for showing up online sounds a little different, make sure you’re using your language and that it reflects exactly what you want right now.

Then whenever you are feeling like you are totally overwhelmed by the process. Whenever you feel like giving up for the day, for not posting on your Instagram, for not sharing your brand message in your blog, for not writing that email. Grab that little post-it note and say your why out loud.

Say it till you feel it so deep inside of you that giving up feels like it was never a thought you could shape in the first place.
