Georgina El Morshdy is kick-ass copywriter and someone I’ve been working closely with over the last few months. We get on really well, probably because Georgina’s approach to writing copy is similar to my approach to personable branding.
Anyway, this week, Georgina travelled up from Plymouth to join me for a “kitchen table” CTFO DeeBrand Kick-Starter. It was AMAZING. In fact, I’m still buzzing with excitement at the progress, breakthroughs and the amount of stuff we got finished in such a short amount of time.
Georgina got massive value from the day too. And in true copywriting style, she wrote about her experience and has agreed to let me share her thoughts with you.

Deebrand Kick-starter – Georgina’s CTFO brand adventure
Working with Dee over the past few months has been brilliant. I’ve learnt stacks about the power of branding and have found myself asking questions such as:
Does design matter?
Can my brand identify really influence how people THINK and FEEL about your business (and you?)
Does the way my website look influence the type of customer I attract AND the amount of money I can charge?
Or perhaps more scary…
Could my current brand identity actually be holding my business back (gulp)?
Now I had my suspicions, but these were finally confirmed after my one-day CTFO DeeBrand Intensive with Dee.
That’s right, I discovered once and for all that the answer to each of my questions is a big, fat YES.
Let me tell you why…
I’m all “brand confused!”
I’m a copywriter and I’m about to hit my three year business anniversary (yay!)
In the last few months (since I started working with Dee actually), I’ve become increasingly dissatisfied with how my business website looks and feels.
Technically my website is sound (my web developer is seriously good), and on the surface the design looks OK, but the trouble was that it no longer felt right. I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what was wrong, but I just knew that it didn’t reflect what I do and who I am.
And I’m sure I’m not alone…
Like many business owners, my brand was rushed up when I started my business. I was itching to get something “out there” and I needed a website to tell the online world that I was ready to take on clients.
For speed and cost I got my logo from one of those budget websites, and I chose colours and fonts through a matter of trial and error based on what I thought looked “nice”. To be fair, branding wasn’t high on my list of startup priorities – and I’m not sure I even knew what it was back then!
But things are different now.
As a business owner, I’m always looking to improve and develop what I do. PLUS I’m in a very different place to where I was three years ago. For example:
I’m a lot clearer about the sort of copy I can write for people.
I understand the customers that I’m best able to help.
And I’ve honed the process I use to help my clients share their knowledge, expertise and products/services in a way that sounds authentic, real – and most importantly – written as if it was written by them.
As a result, my old brand no longer works – simply because it doesn’t represent me.
And after reading so much about the process Dee takes her clients through to help them find themselves, I knew a bit of brand action was well overdue.
Time for a DeeBrand
The starting point for my one-day CTFO DeeBrand was to discover what to build my brand on. I LOVED this part because finally I was able to get under the skin of what I do and who I am. This is something I do with my clients, but I’ve always struggled to do with myself – I guess I’m just too close to it all to get clarity.
Dee got to work at teasing out my true personality. By doing this Dee would be able to build my new brand with substance because it would be based on something real and meaningful – my personality.
I just loved how Dee gave me a safe, creative space where I could say anything without being judged. And because we were locked away in her kitchen and sat opposite each other, there was no wriggle room for vagueness. Dee just kept pushing me so we could dig deeper and deeper to get at all the good stuff. It was amazing how it suddenly all came together and a flood of key words and concepts bubbled up that felt just right.
Now I can’t give away too much here because the final versions are being tweaked to perfection. BUT I can vividly remember how I felt when Dee gave me my first look at a new logo based on the concept and imagery we came up with.
Instantly, I felt connected to the image (it’s amazing how powerful images can be!) What’s more, I remember thinking (and writing down) – what’s possible now?
You see, constrained by my old brand, all the ideas I’ve had over the past few months just didn’t work. But in my new brand outfit, suddenly I have total clarity of what I need to do next. And whilst I am a tad freaked out by it all, I am super excited to have crystallised my business vision.
Next step – introduce a whole new me!
My day with Dee has kick-started a process of transformation that I’ve been pondering over for months! I can tell you right now that the changes that are coming up WOULD NOT be happening without Dee’s intervention, influence, and persistence that I CTFO (I’ll let her tell you what that acronym means because it contains a word I can’t say!)
The day has given me clarity about what my business needs to say, how to position myself in the market, and most importantly for me – who I am as a copywriter and what makes me unique from all the other amazing writers out there.
I’ve LOVED working with Dee and although I’m seriously nervous, I also can’t wait to take my business to its next step.
