A couple years ago I was at a seriously good business event. It was so good that it changed the direction of my business.
Anyway, a particularly interesting conversation that I had at the bar really got me thinking. You see, a well-meaning person had the confidence (for want of a politer word!) to tell me that “design doesn’t matter”.
What the *$£%…
Now, for those of you who know me well, you’ll understand why that throwaway comment was like showing a red rag to a bull. Seriously? Design absolutely does matter. In fact, design matters so much that it has the potential to completely reposition your business – so you get to attract exactly the type of customers you LOVE to work with (and make a heap more money in the process).
Be honest now, wouldn’t your business be a lot more fun if you got to work with “Mr Perfect Customer” ALL the time? And wouldn’t you just love to be making a bit more money after all the hours of love and soul you pour into your business? (Yeah, I thought so).

It aint pretty
You see, that man at the bar was a teeny bit right (but don’t tell him I said that!), but only because most designers don’t think about designing in the right way.

Evoke the right (pre-determined) thoughts, emotions and feelings in the customers who look at your design
You see, when you create design like this, you’re not just taking a punt that it might do the trick.
Instead, you’ve chosen fonts, colours and graphics for a specific, clear focus (not just because pink happens to be your favourite colour).
