A couple years ago I was at a seriously good business event. It was so good that it changed the direction of my business.
Anyway, a particularly interesting conversation that I had at the bar really got me thinking. You see, a well-meaning person had the confidence (for want of a politer word!) to tell me that “design doesn’t matter”.
What the *$£%…
Now, for those of you who know me well, you’ll understand why that throwaway comment was like showing a red rag to a bull. Seriously? Design absolutely does matter. In fact, design matters so much that it has the potential to completely reposition your business – so you get to attract exactly the type of customers you LOVE to work with (and make a heap more money in the process).
Be honest now, wouldn’t your business be a lot more fun if you got to work with “Mr Perfect Customer” ALL the time? And wouldn’t you just love to be making a bit more money after all the hours of love and soul you pour into your business? (Yeah, I thought so).
And that’s what my DeeBrand process can do for you…
But before I tell you more, let me backtrack just a little.
It aint pretty
You see, that man at the bar was a teeny bit right (but don’t tell him I said that!), but only because most designers don’t think about designing in the right way.
That’s because most designers simply don’t invest the time needed to really get under the skin of the business and the business owner. And because they don’t have these insights, all they can do when designing is focus on the “pretty” and what they “think” looks nice.
And that’s why most design is so poor and doesn’t work (and why you’ve been disappointed so many times in the past).
You see, design that isn’t thought through, will NEVER EVER capture the personality, tone and essence of you and your business – and as a result, it don’t work (sorry).
You see, the appearance of a design just scratches the surface of what good design can potentially achieve. Never forget that seriously good design doesn’t just look damn good, it’s been specifically crafted to deliver real results.
That’s right – just like you test the effectiveness of your marketing in terms of ROI, design should be assessed in pretty much the same way.
In particular, good design should:
Attract your PERFECT customer
Position you to be able to charge the fees you know you’re worth
Evoke the right (pre-determined) thoughts, emotions and feelings in the customers who look at your design
You see, when you create design like this, you’re not just taking a punt that it might do the trick.
Instead, you’ve chosen fonts, colours and graphics for a specific, clear focus (not just because pink happens to be your favourite colour).
And that’s what makes the DeeBrand process so damn good.
Come on then, Dee. Tell me more about this “DeeBrand Process” I’ve been hearing so much about…
The interesting thing is all the stuff I’ve just said about design also applies to your brand.
In fact, it’s more important to get your brand right first before you start creating your other marketing bits and bobs. That’s because your brand underpins everything that you do. It sets your standards and it creates the space within which customers get to interact with you.
I promise you, the right brand will totally transform your positioning. It’s why clients I’ve worked with have gone from earning just enough to cover the monthly bills, to turning over six figures.
Now I know this sounds amazing. And that’s because it is! But equally it’s not rocket science.
In fact, I bet a lot of the business owners that you admire aren’t smarter than you, they aren’t more creative than you and they aren’t necessarily more experienced than you. Instead, the thing they’ve got (which you probably don’t), is a highly profitable, personal brand.
And the good news is that you can have one too… Pretty nifty right?
You see, branding isn’t just about the design. It’s not about creating a pretty logo or choosing your favourite colour (or defaulting to blue). To get to the point where you start to put colours and images on the page, you have to do a bit of deep thinking.
I call it “brand ideeology” – because it’s the bit where you get crystal clear on what your brand needs to say, who it’s trying to attract, and the thoughts emotions and feelings it needs to evoke.
And guess what. The BEST person to do this thinking is YOU (and I can help you with that)
Plus, if you’re a small business owner who is serious about getting a brand that works for you – the best thing to do is to build a brand on YOUR personality.
And that’s why the DeeBrand process is all about creating a highly profitable, PERSONABLE brand.
Seriously, base my brand on me? What’s that all about, Dee?
Great question and here are two VERY good reasons why you should do just that.
Firstly, a brand built on YOU is the quickest and easiest way to stand out and differentiate yourself from everyone else.
So many small businesses want to be different (and so they should), but they overlook the very thing that makes them entirely unique. Customers like to work with people they know, like and trust. And that’s what a personality-based brand helps to achieve – instantly. This means that when your brand is infused with you, your ideal customer is instantly attracted.
And because no one else can be you (unless you’ve got a clone), building a brand on your personality means you can’t be copied – EVER. Not even by the most peskiest of competitor who keeps sweeping in and nicking your ideas (yep, all the best people have a stream of unoriginal copycats following us around – take it as a compliment).
So how do I get a highly profitable, personable brand, Dee?
